South African Slang 101:

1. Yah, Bru:
'for sure' or 'yeah dude',

(translation for my Flagstaff friends: "Cha Dude")

2. Lekker! (sounds like lacquer).:
'cool' or 'nice'

3. Bottle Store.:
'liquor store'

4. Avo:
'avocado'

(don't think I've heard one person the full name for this fruit)

5. Is it:
'oh, really?' not to be mistaken for 'isn't it?'

6. Tackies:
'sneakers'

7. It's Chilled.:
'it's chill' not 'it's cold'

8. Buckie:
'pick-up truck'

9. Bokkie:
'an animal of the antelope type' or 'a rugby player for South Africa'

10. Braai:
'grill' or 'party where grilling is to take place'
