A few years back, the Zimbabwean currency, the Zimbabwe dollar, went through some heavy inflation...aka, the worst inflation in the history of the WORLD!
First reaction to this inflation:
The creation of Zimbabwe bank notes that looked like this:
This resulted in the need for carrying huge duffle bags full of money with you anywhere you went, just in case you might want to buy something.
Second reaction to the inflation:
After finally accepting their fate, and giving in to the under-the-table trade of foreign money, Zimbabwe officially changed over to using the US Dollar.
This means that Zimbabwe dollars have become a collector's item. In fact, the first time I was in Zimbabwe, a street vendor in Victoria Falls tried to sell us the "box set" (including the two-hundred and fifty thousand; the ten million; the fifty billion; and the one hundred trillion). Ross replied to the salesman that he had multiple drawers full of "boxed sets" at home.
Third reaction to the inflation:
Now that US Dollars have been in circulation for a while, a new problem has developed. All of the money is getting a bit old...in fact, some of it barely even resembles US dollars anymore. I have even had to beg to get someone to accept my money......SO, I'll finish off the end of our story of the progression of the 'Zimbabwe' dollar with a photo of the new Zimbabwe dollar; which I must say, is not a US dollar at all, but is in fact the true, modern, Zimbabwe money:
**If you look closely, I think you can see through it...
